Fall is upon us, and just like we love transitioning our closets from sundresses to cozy knits, we’re all about giving our interior spaces a little seasonal refresh as well. It would appear we aren’t alone in our love for embracing fall vibes at home—the “warm aesthetic” is currently trending on social media, and rich, inviting colors like rust, sienna, and terracotta are popping up in the latest decor collections at many of our favorite retailers. Read on for a deep dive into this fall home trend, including how to give your own home a warm, cozy update just in time for fall.

Why Warm Colors Are Trending This Fall

Most interior design experts would agree that it’s only natural to gravitate toward warm color schemes during fall and winter because these seasons signify comfort and coziness. After all, who doesn’t love to snuggle under blankets, sit by a crackling fireplace, and grasp a steaming mug of apple cider as the temperatures cool down and the leaves start to fall? This longing for coziness only intensifies during the transition to winter when leaves give way to snow and we trade our cider for hot cocoa.

Additionally, nature itself takes on warmer tones during the fall, as the foliage shifts from verdant greens to blazing yellows, oranges, reds, and eventually browns. Embracing these warm shades in our interior spaces is just another way to revel in nature’s autumnal beauty and bring the outdoors inside.

How to Incorporate Warm Tones in Your Space

So how do you bring those rich, vibrant, warm tones into your space? Start by swapping out your usual pillows and throw blankets with a variety of fall-themed options. If you’re not big on pumpkins or other seasonal designs, opt for solid-colored picks that fall in line with this color scheme—think beige, taupe, burnt orange, burgundy, and so on. This is a relatively low-cost way to achieve a warm aesthetic in your home that will instantly make a noticeable impact.

Another fantastic way to weave warm tones into your decor is by swapping in small, inexpensive accessories. The hand towels in your kitchen and bathroom are an easy place to start, or you could easily bring in vases and other decorative objects in warm tones to style your coffee table or a bookshelf. Staying in line with affordable options, accent rugs (like those in your entryway) are also simple to swap with warm-toned versions. While each of these updates may seem small, they’ll make a majorly cozy statement in combination with one another.

Finally, the warm, comfy-cozy vibes wouldn’t be complete without a few candles. When choosing an array for your space, don’t make your selection based solely on scent—opt for candles with pretty containers that can act as decor when they’re not lit. The warm glow of candlelight is also key to this aesthetic. As the sun goes down, flick off the overhead light and instead rely on candles and lamps to create a warm ambience that will feel especially cozy in the fall.

Baking pumpkin bread and enjoying the sweet aroma that wafts its way throughout the house from our kitchen is one of my favorite fall traditions. Chili in the crockpot on the first NFL Sunday of the year is a close second. Fall heralds the beginning of cozy season, and in addition to updating your wardrobe and beauty routines, the food we eat this season gets an upgrade, too. While summer is all about foods that help you cool down, fall is for food that warms you up, head to toe. And that isn’t reserved solely for soups and stews—it’s also the cozy treats that are good for the soul, like cider doughnuts, homemade apple pie, and of course, pumpkin bread (with chocolate chips, please!).

Doing a fall kitchen reset is a great way to close the chapter on summer and welcome the warmer, cozier foods that fall brings. It’s also an opportunity to tidy up some clutter that has no doubt accumulated over the past few months and to set yourself up for success as the weather begins to cool down. Read on for a few ideas to help you cozy up your kitchen for fall and make way for autumnal goodies and treats.

1. Do a pantry clean-out

If there’s one spot that accumulates clutter in the kitchen, it’s no doubt the pantry. Whether you have a spacious walk-in pantry or a small cabinet filled with dry goods, take stock of what you have and toss anything that’s expired. Take note especially of your fall spices and baking supplies, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract. Once you’ve assessed all the items in your pantry, sort everything into categories like snacks, breakfast items, and baking ingredients. As you put things back onto the shelves, organize them into zones based on category. A fresh pantry at the beginning of the season will give you a chance to really see what you have and can help you better plan your next grocery visit.

2. Put your cold-weather appliances within reach

Over the summer, I don’t bring out my crockpot, Dutch oven, or KitchenAid mixer nearly as often as I do once the weather starts to cool down. At the start of the warmer months, I always tuck away these appliances towards the back of my cabinets, and they’re the first things I get out when the leaves begin to turn from green to gold and amber. Feel free to do a little kitchen rearranging so your cold-weather appliances are within reach, and be sure to give them a quick rinse and wipe-down before using them.

3. Put summer kitchenware up high

As you’re rearranging your kitchen and putting cold-weather items within reach, this is also a great opportunity to move summer appliances into hibernation. Stash them in the back of a cabinet or place them up high on a tall shelf. Come fall, my husband and I keep our cooler, along with drink koozies and summer tumblers, at the very top of our pantry. They are quite literally out of reach without the help of a step stool, which makes room on the eye-level shelves for items we use daily or weekly. You can also tuck away the juicer, the ice cream maker, and the frozen drink machine until next summer. And don’t worry—it’s not goodbye forever, just see you later!

4. Add fall touches and update decor

Just like the rest of your home, your kitchen deserves to be decorated. So while you’re tidying up, be sure to add some seasonal touches to your space. Fall-themed dish towels are an easy and cost-effective way to bring in autumn colors and patterns, as is adding fresh flowers to your dining table or countertops. If you’re short on space, a few sprigs of foliage in a bud vase can be just as effective as a whole bouquet or arrangement. For another easy addition, fill a tray with candles and small pumpkins, or display a cookbook open to your favorite cozy recipe. This will set the scene for all your fall baking adventures—now all you need is a homey autumn playlist or some seasonal background noise. Might I suggest a classic fall rom-com like When Harry Met Sally? After all, baking and Nora Ephron = perfection.

In 2021, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album “SOUR” and it felt like the entire world, including the cast of Saturday Night Live, started singing “drivers license” in crowded rooms—and if you’re me, alone in my apartment on repeat with absolutely zero shame. It was a song that spoke to many people’s souls. Songs on that album like “deja vu” and “happier” perfectly captured what it means to be a teenager in love. But the now 20-year-old singer also somehow spoke to what it means to be an adult of any generation who has had their heart broken. After all, we’ve all had those moments where we revert back to that teenager in high school we were, struggling to find our footing and searching for our power.

I have been anxiously waiting to see what the next album Olivia created would be like. That album is finally out, it’s called “GUTS,” and I listened to it the minute it dropped. Did it speak to my teenage soul in the way “SOUR” did? Yes. Yes, it did. But it also feels more grown up. Have I already learned the lyrics of several of the songs? You better believe it. The vibe of the album is fresh, yet evokes some type of ‘90s nostalgia that is not only timely but true to Olivia’s ability to connect to multiple generations. I’m excited to rank the songs on “GUTS” and will be joined by fellow Olivia fans at The Everygirl, Garri Charverst and Emma Ginsberg. The songs will be rated on a scale of one to five blood drops, because, vampire. This is what we thought:

12. “bad idea right?”

Michelle

Rating: 3/5

I love a song that starts with talk-singing, what can I say? This song is giving me ‘90s rock vibes, and I’m desperately trying to memorize the chanting chorus. This is an anthem for anyone who has known it was a bad idea to hook back up with an ex, but did it anyway, because we’ve all been there. The guitar solo toward the end of the song is also very fun. I’d be willing to bet this is one of the songs Olivia will play live a lot as she promotes the album.

Garri

Rating: 2/5

I loved “bad idea right?” when it was released as a single on its own. It may not have been my favorite song, but I could see the appeal and can admit it’s catchy as hell. After the rest of the album, though, this song just doesn’t stick out to me. Nothing can stop the virality of it on TikTok with its relatable lyrics (who among us hasn’t made questionable decisions about an ex after badmouthing them to their friends?), but I may be skipping this one on future listens.

Emma

Rating: 2/5

I know this song has become a TikTok favorite, but this is where I hit my personal angst limit. Just because I know exactly how it feels to be on the precipice of making a bad dating decision doesn’t mean I want to hang out with that feeling for three full minutes. Then again, if you had asked me about three years ago when I was Olivia’s age, “bad idea right?” would have been my anthem.

11. “the grudge”

Michelle

Rating: 4/5

This was my favorite out of the piano ballads on the album, and I suspect is one of those songs that will sneak up on people and become a go-to on Fall playlists. The lyric “we both drew blood but man those cuts were never equal” got an extra blood drop emoji alone in my book. It’s melancholy, it’s moody, it’s beautiful, all at once.

Garri

Rating: 2/5

Maybe I’m just a sucker for the pop-rock nostalgic sound songs like “all-american bitch” and “get him back!” have, but this ballad just doesn’t hit for me. What saves this song from a single bloodlet is the lyrics—I truly think Olivia is a great writer and perhaps will grow into the ballads she writes.

Emma

Rating: 2/5

“The grudge” is a beautiful ballad, but it pales in comparison to the other slow tracks on the album in my mind. I would have loved to see Olivia build this song to a “vampire” level of anger in the second half of the song, a la Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever.” However, I don’t see this song as a completely missed opportunity, as “your flower’s filled with vitriol” is a truly incredible bridge lyric.

10. “love is embarrassing”

Michelle

Rating: 3/5

Much like most of the songs on this album, I’m getting childhood pop-rock nostalgia from the tone of this song. By the time this song rolls around at track nine, it isn’t the first time Olivia talks about how stupid or terrible she feels about falling for someone. That said, I can relate to negative self-talk when it comes to looking back on relationships, and hope that Olivia, and all of us, know that it’s okay to make mistakes and grow. End of PSA (or really note to self).

Garri

Rating: 2/5

There are quite a few songs on this album that say what “love is embarrassing” says but in a better, more clever way—specifically “get him back” and “bad idea right?” (though I also rated the latter quite low). I just wonder what we could have gotten on this album had this song been left on the cutting room floor… why yes, I am waiting for the deluxe tracks to be added to Spotify.

Emma

Rating: 4/5

“Love is embarrassing” sounds like it should be playing under the opening credits of an early 2000s high school rom-com, and I love it for that. Aside from the No Doubt-esque nostalgia this song invokes, I’m obsessed with how painfully self-reflective the lyrics are. Even if you’ve grown up beyond the age when love was embarrassing, we all remember what it feels like to plan out a wedding for a guy we’re never marrying.

9. “logical”

Michelle

Rating: 3/5

I agree with the lyric, “love is never logical.” However, this song felt less specific than the other songs on the album, so I had a hard time connecting to it. At least, I felt that most of the way through the song until the break where the lyric “our problems are all solvable” is followed by an absolutely glorious breakdown of things that were said in the relationship referenced. That twist added another blood drop on the rating scale for me.

Garri

Rating: 3/5

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the ballads on this album just don’t do it for me. That said, “logical” is starting to grow on me. I can’t quite connect to every one of Olivia’s lyrics, but she really does get what falling in and out of love as a young woman is like. Though I’m at a very different life stage than her, I can still relate to what it’s like being so in love with someone that you start behaving in a way that defies logic. Years later, I still look back on past decisions and wonder just what the hell I was thinking.

Emma

Rating: 3/5

The lyrics of this song cut DEEP. Like, crying on the bathroom floor, walking in the rain without an umbrella deep. I think “logical” is a masterpiece, but I also don’t think I could listen to it on a daily basis—this is one of those songs that you save for when you’re down horrendous. Adding it to my crying playlist and moving on to the next track for the foreseeable future.

8. “making the bed”

Michelle

Rating: 4/5

This song gets better every time I listen to it. By the end of the year, it will probably be on my Spotify most-played list. It gives me major LA vibes, and seems to speak to Olivia’s experience rising to fame, but also could apply to anyone who achieved their dream and realized it wasn’t what they thought it would be. I loved the lyrics “another thing I ruined I used to do for fun” and “another perfect moment that doesn’t feel like mine.” These might as well be the anthem of people who find success in Hollywood.

Garri

Rating: 2/5

I really appreciate what “making the bed” says with its lyrics, but, as I said a few times now, I just don’t think ballads are Olivia’s strength—yet. With the exception of “lacy,” these slower, more introspective songs don’t hit nearly as hard as the album’s upbeat tracks.

Emma

Rating: 4/5

The “Driver’s License” references in this track? Chef’s kiss. While I’m obsessed with the fury and fire of the full-on rock songs on this album, Olivia’s vocals stand out so beautifully on ballads like “making the bed.” This one gets a high ranking from me because it’s such a deeply emotional song that has nothing to do with romantic relationships, and instead encapsulates the sheer drama of simply just growing up and gaining responsibility.

7. “ballad of a homeschooled girl”

Michelle

Rating: 2/5

At first, I thought Olivia was singing in a British accent at the top of this one. I don’t think she was going for that, but I got British pop-rock vibes for sure; it could be a Spice Girls song if this were the ‘90s. This song didn’t hit me emotionally like some of the others did, but it’s fun, and seems very much like a nod to Olivia’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series days.

Garri

Rating: 3/5

This song really grew on me throughout my various listens. On the surface, it’s another punky banger on an album with no shortage of them, but where this song really shines is in its lyrics. As a sufferer of chronic social anxiety myself (though I wasn’t homeschooled), I really relate to a few of the lines here, which makes this song personally endearing. Breaking glasses? Oversharing? Worrying about what you said a night after drinking? We’ve all been there, Olivia. The one thing I will say is more often than not, everyone is too preoccupied with worrying about their own missteps after a night out to even remember anything embarrassing you might’ve done.

Emma

Rating: 5/5

It’s literally so hard to be a girl, and in “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” Olivia is shining a light on the brutal awkwardness of teen girlhood. The angst in this song makes me wish I could transport back in time and force my 13-year-old self to listen to Olivia scream “Feels like my skin doesn’t fit right over my bones.” I’m calling this a puberty anthem for the ages.

6. “get him back!”

Michelle

Rating: 2/5

The only song with an exclamation point in the title, and we should all take note. Not only are we getting more talk-singing at the beginning of this song, but it’s also throwing out summer camp vibes (and maybe even middle school vibes) with slightly more juvenile lyrics, which is why this one is ranked on the lower side for me. That being said, I can see myself scream-singing this in the car after someone has wronged me—maybe I’m just not in the right headspace right now.

Garri

Rating: 5/5

In addition to “lacy,” “get him back!” was an instant favorite. The song plays on the double meaning of the phrase “get him back!” with nearly every line in a way that is just fun and super clever. In an album full of songs exploring young love, this one captures the unique experience of simultaneously loving and hating a person so much you can’t tell if you want to kiss them or, as Olivia puts it, hit ‘em with an uppercut. In true Olivia fashion, this upbeat hit is super catchy and one I’ve been banging my head to on repeat.

Emma

Rating: 4/5

“Get him back!” took a few listens for me, because girl, getting flown to France as an apology is hella unrelatable. However, it’s the “But I am my father’s daughter, so maybe I can fix him” that did me in, because Olivia’s dad is a therapist, and dropping in a personal Easter egg like that is what makes her a star. The ad-libs that I found slightly annoying on my first listen completely won me over on the fifth.

5. “pretty isn’t pretty”

Michelle

Rating: 3/5

This is a song that I imagine playing at the midpoint of a rom-com in a high school where the main character is having an epic moment of change. And I mean that in the best way possible. The song has chill vibes and adds a light touch to the end of the album. I’ve said it too many times in these ratings, but I’ll say it again: it’s giving me ‘90s and it’s giving me Gwen Stefani circa No Doubt.

Garri

Rating: 5/5

Michelle and I both went to the same place on this one. But does this song not sound like it should be playing in the opening credits of an early-aughts teen movie? A high-school senior escapes to the city for a weekend—without telling her parents, mind you—for the adventure of her life. Sonically, this song immediately transports me to this place every time I listen to it. But though I find myself bopping along to the nostalgic beat, the lyrics here also cut deep (I love a bop with meaning). In a world where beauty standards change with the seasons, it’s impossible for women of any age to keep up. At 20 years old, molding yourself into what the world views as beautiful is a constant uphill battle that’s hard to see the other side of. Olivia has proven she can make songs that capture somewhat universal experiences of love, but I think “pretty isn’t pretty”—alongside “lacy”—are even better examples of what Olivia can do: make us all feel connected in our experiences of womanhood.

Emma

Rating: 4/5

If “Who Says” by Selena Gomez had a sad indie pop Gen Z younger sister, it would be “pretty isn’t pretty” by Olivia Rodrigo. In all seriousness, it’s been a long time since pop culture has delivered a song about impossible beauty standards that’s as much of a banger as this one. I personally think that this song is lyrically leagues above “jealousy, jealousy” on SOUR, mostly because of its narrower focus on female beauty standards, so it’s earning four blood drops from me.

4. “lacy”

Michelle

Rating: 4/5

This song is absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. I still can’t quite pinpoint why it makes me feel so delightfully melancholy (I love it when a song brings forth my true brooding self) and I can see several interpretations of the song. For me, the lyric “I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you” hits the hardest—it reminds me of all the times I’ve compared myself to someone else, or felt betrayed by my heart.

Garri

Rating: 5/5

Hello to my absolute favorite song on the album. This is shocking because as I’m sure you all understand by now, I’m not an Olivia ballad fan, but “lacy” is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve listened to in a while. Lyrically, it perfectly encapsulates the innate jealousy a person can feel towards someone who, by most accounts, “has it all.” You simultaneously love, hate, and want to be them, and “lacy” just gets that experience. It sounds like a soothing lullaby and fits Olivia’s voice wonderfully. I could listen to this on repeat all day long and never get over it.

Emma

Rating: 5/5

This is my favorite song on GUTS by far—While I applaud Olivia for bringing back pop-punk in a big way, I think that this slightly indie sound shows just how much potential she has as an artist. Lyrically, it’s the perfect illustration of how icky it feels to be jealous of another woman, one whom you potentially admire at the same time. That said, I will be covering my ears and singing “la la la” anytime anyone on the internet speculates who this song might be about! Let women feel the human emotion of jealousy without pitting them against each other, xoxo.

3. “all-american bitch”

Michelle

Rating: 5/5

I loved that the album started with this song. The duality of the lyrics and the shifting tones are a preview of the types of songs that appear in the album—sweet ballads and pop-rock anthems. This particular song spoke to me in a similar way that that monologue from Barbie did, calling out what it’s like to be a woman in this world. The feeling especially hit me when the following ironic lyrics are repeated at the end of the song: “I’m grateful all the time, I’m sexy and I’m kind, I’m pretty when I cry.” And earlier in the song, “I am built like a mother and a total machine” might be my favorite lyric in the whole album.

Garri

Rating: 5/5

“all-american bitch” has the weighty responsibility of starting the album off on the right foot—and, in my opinion, it sticks the landing and then some. With each listen, this song gets higher and higher on my faves list. It sets the tone for what the album is going to be: an exploration of what it’s like to come of age as a young girl right now. This song is a masterful opener in the context of the album, but it’s also a HIT on its own.

Emma

Rating: 4/5

Barely-suppressed feminine rage? Yup, I would say that’s a pretty accurate representation of how it feels to be a Gen Z woman in America from my point of view. When Olivia said, “I am built like a mother and a total machine,” I felt that so hard, and I know I’m not the only one. This song sets the tone for the rest of GUTS flawlessly, and it’s a stellar kickoff to Olivia’s sophomore album.

2. “vampire”

Michelle

Rating: 5/5

This track was released as a single earlier this summer, and I had already listened to it a hundred times before the album came out. Upon the first listen, the song evoked my own memories of dating older people in my early 20s who absolutely destroyed my sense of self-worth, and the word “vampire” feels accurate. Upon subsequent listens the lyric “cause girls your age know better” particularly stabbed me in the heart. I will also say, I love vampires, so this song kind of gives them a bad name, but I forgive Olivia on behalf of all fantastical fictional vampires (Damon, Stefan, Edward, etc.)

Garri

Rating: 5/5

I don’t think “bad idea right?” was the right choice of a single, but “vampire” couldn’t have been more perfect as our introduction to “GUTS.” Not only is it a great nod to the album’s title, but it is also a summation of the album. Our relationships, especially at Olivia’s age, define so much of our younger years. Whether they’re toxic (as the one in “vampire” clearly is) or wonderfully romantic or just plain fun, the people we’re with in our early 20s shape how we feel about life and love as we grow up—which is what this album is really about. A nearly perfect song.

Emma

Rating: 5/5

When Rolling Stone called GUTS an “instant classic,” they might as well have just been talking about “Vampire” in itself, because this song is an immediate earworm. Olivia definitely picked the perfect single to introduce this album. In my opinion, you can hear little bits of “Vampire,” whether thematically or musically, in every other song on the album.

1. “teenage dream”

Michelle

Rating: 5/5

I couldn’t help but think immediately of the Katy Perry song when I saw the title of this one, but that thought immediately disappeared as soon as the song started (the two could not be more different). The message behind this song is my favorite on the album. The lyrics are as applicable to a 19-year-old who’s about to turn 20 as it is to anyone moving into a new era, or facing the pressures all young people face. Life. Is. Terrifying. Also… I think the very end of the song might be a recording of baby Olivia and that makes me want to cry.

Garri

Rating: 5/5

If “all-american bitch” is the perfect opener, then “teenage dream” is the perfect closer. Looking back at all my rankings for this album, my favorite songs (aside from the absolute bangers that are “get him back!” and “vampire”) are the ones where Olivia focuses not on love, but on the transition into womanhood. Yes, relationships are a part of that, but more than anything, being a 20-year-old woman entering the “real world” for the first time is an impossibly daunting experience. Are you pretty enough? Did you say something wrong at that party? Why does that other girl seem to have it all so easy? In “teenage dream,” Olivia asks, over and over again if it really does get better. As I enter my thirties I can confidently say it really, truly does.

Emma

Rating: 5/5

HUGE day for 22-year-old teenage girls like myself! Aside from the double “Brutal” and Katy Perry reference in “Teenage Dream,” I love this track because of the unbelievable build throughout the song. I’m amazed at how Olivia Rodrigo can pull off a build that goes from basically whispering to something I can picture myself fully yelling in the shower in under four minutes. The bridge in this song mirrors the feeling of being on the cusp of adulthood both lyrically and musically, and it’s gorgeous. No notes.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you already know how keen we are on the concept of capsule wardrobes—a closet full of items that can be mixed and matched with one another for an infinite number of combinations and a permanent fix to your “I don’t know what to wear today” conundrum.

There’s no debating that of all the seasons, the transition to fall is always the most invigorating. Sandals are swapped out for boots in gorgeous leathers and suedes, tees are exchanged for cozy cashmere and wool sweaters; there’s a sense of nostalgia in the air, and days are filled with a sense of newness and optimism that only this fleeting season manages to hold. There’s nothing that compares to that first sub-65 September morning that allows you to wake up, put on your favorite sweater for the first time since March, and head out the door into a crisp autumn day.

Of all of the wardrobe moments that take place from January through December, swapping out the airy dresses and sea of linen bottoms I’ve been relying on for months for moody shades of brown, a rotating selection of layers, and the collection of pieces I associate with my favorite activities of the year is my absolute favorite.

As our calendars turned to August, our minds changed channels to have fall on the brain, and our fall 2023 capsule wardrobe is here to usher in the new season in style.

What Is a Capsule Wardrobe?

The simple definition is that it’s a curated wardrobe made up of versatile pieces that you love to wear. Creating your capsule wardrobe should be a testament to your personal style

A capsule wardrobe consists of a set of tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, shoes, and accessories that can be easily mixed and matched together to be dressed up, down, and anywhere in between. It means your closet has less trendy pieces that will only be worn for one season and more high-quality, classic pieces that stand the test of time and can be worn for years to come. The best part? While it might feel more expensive in the moment, you’ll save money in the long run since you won’t be going through so many fast-fashion pieces.

Once you master a starter capsule wardrobe, it can be curated and swapped from season to season. It makes it easy to pack up and take out clothes for the appropriate season because every time you pull them out, they’re just as in style as they were at the time you bought them.

How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe

The first step to building a capsule wardrobe is to take a good, hard look at what you already own, then purge the rest. We don’t mean opening it and flippantly going through the hangers; we mean that you should take every single piece out of your closet, then evaluate if it should go back in. Don’t forget to take a look at your shoes and accessories, too.

Then, sort each item into one of four piles:

 1. I love it and would wear it tomorrow: These pieces fit your body and your lifestyle, and you’re happy wearing them. Put these back first.
 2. Maybe: These pieces might not fit perfectly, have sentimental value, or you just can’t put your finger on why you don’t wear them more. (If you haven’t reached for it more than once, it belongs in this pile too). Put all of these items in a box and store them in a place that’s easily accessible. If you find yourself reaching for an item, put it back in your closet after; if you haven’t reached for it by the end of the season, keep it in the box to take to donate. This is noncommittal (for now) and allows you to change your mind later.
 3. Hard no: Whether it’s because it doesn’t fit or you just decided you don’t like it, pack these pieces up to donate them.
 4. Seasonal: There’s no need to keep a chunky sweater next to your summer tank tops. Move all of your seasonal pieces into a storage location that will be easy for you to swap out once the time is right.

How to Style Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe

To work from a coffee shop

earringsballet flatsjeans (plus) | button-up (plus) | bag

Whether you’re heading to the office for a casual Friday or are taking your laptop and heading to a coffee shop to romanticize your work-from-home routine, this ensemble will have you covered. A crisp white button-up and straight jeans are a no-brainer year-round, but with such a basic base, the devil is in the details. A pair of cognac ballet flats, a suede bag, and earrings that deliver a subtle statement are what make this look worthy of being repeated throughout the entirety of the season.

Out to dinner

Fall isn’t fall without at least one all-black ensemble getting taken out of your closet. To make yours interesting, pairing different textures with one another—like the cashmere, satin, and leather seen here—are what make it feel like a styled look, rather than one you chose on autopilot. If the weather is chilly, layer your favorite blazer over top of the sweater vest for a quintessential fall dinner outfit.

To the office

blazer (plus) | ballet flatsmidi dress (plus) | bag | earrings

Fall fashion is often dominated by earth tones, but in this case, we’re happy about it. The combination of the warm, neutral shades that this blazer, sweater dress, and flats all have in common make them a match made in heaven when paired together for the office.

Any leather jacket is a closet staple, but our eyes are set on oversized bomber ones this season. They bring an effortlessly cool edge to any pairing, including this seamless jeans-and-tee combo that’s perfectly complimented by chunky black loafers—these happen to be my favorite loafers I own—and oval sunglasses.

Out to brunch

shirt dress (plus) | ballet flats | bag | earrings

Much to our dismay, much of fall is filled with days that heat up to dozens of degrees above the crispness we like to imagine comes with September and October. To compromise with the weather, adding a mini shirt dress like this one to your arsenal is your best bet. Its voluminous sleeves and dramatic silhouette embody fall, but its length allows for versatility all season; you can wear it on its own when it’s warm, or with a jacket when the temps do drop.

Whether you’re the type that likes to slather on a tinted moisturizer and head out the door or you require full glam and a blow-out to leave the house, one thing’s for sure: Stepping out with a cool nail color on your hands is a guaranteed confidence-booster.

Maybe it’s your usual at-home manicure or the one hour of solace you get every few weeks with your nail technician, or maybe it’s looking down at your hands during work and feeling put-together—whatever it is, we know great manis give you a great feeling. And if you find yourself searching “fall nail colors” the second you switch your calendar to August, we’re right there with you.

There’s no better way to gear up for the new season than with a fresh (preferably seasonal) coat of paint on your nails. This fall, everyone will be wearing these 11 delicious hues. Trust us: They’ll make you want to book a mani appointment ASAP.

1. Latte

Whether you prefer your lattes iced all year round (I mean, same) or swap to warm ones for the sake of a seasonal cup at Starbucks, one thing is for sure: This latte-inspired shade is going to be steaming hot this fall.

2. Naked

Naked nails are trending, and that’s not stopping any time soon. To achieve this clean-girl look, you can opt for a sheer pink shade or a strengthening top coat—no color needed.

3. Bright Red

Shades of red are a classic choice any time of the year, but this fall, we’re going to be seeing this bright, candy-apple shade on the fingers of the very coolest.

4. Terracotta

Source: @ matejanova

This burnt orange shade makes me want a slice of pumpkin pie ASAP, and I refuse to believe I’m alone in that. This season, tone down your go-to bright orange polish for something a little softer with a deep hue of terracotta.

5. Plum

This beautiful purple-brown shade is the epitome of fall. It’s moody, mysterious, and will get you in the seasonal spirit the second the first coat hits your nails.

6. Khaki Green

Source: @ matejanova

Green is the shade we just can’t escape this year, and that’s not changing this fall. Embrace a softer take on the trend with a deep khaki green manicure. It’s almost a neutral, but with a fresh, cool take you won’t be able to get enough of.

7. Rich Brown

You can’t go wrong with a rich brown shade in the fall. It’s neutral and seasonally appropriate, but is different enough that it doesn’t feel anywhere close to boring.

8. Emerald Green

If you’re itching to try a statement mani this fall, emerald green is for you. It’s bright, statement-making, and will make everyone around you green with envy (*wink wink*).

9. Black

Whether you’re feeling spooky or you just want something simple for the season, you can’t go wrong with a classic black mani. It’ll pop *so* well against the pumpkin-flavored coffee that’s bound to be in your hand.

10. Milky White

Source: @ matejanova

No, the milky manicure hasn’t run its course yet, and we’re not mad about it. This simple, soft, clean nail trend will be the perfect compliment to your arsenal of cable-knit sweaters.

11. Navy Blue

Source: @matejanova

If you’re ready to transition into fall ASAP, swap your baby blue (ahem, blueberry milk) nail polish to a deep, dreamy navy instead. It’ll feel so chic, we wouldn’t be surprised if you wear it on repeat all season.

]]>
We look to the stars for everything from guidance on our love lives to finding the Gilmore Girls character who’s most like us, but did you know you can also look to the stars to determine how to smash through your to-do list, too? While some zodiac signs have no problem diving headfirst into work (we’re looking at you, Capricorns and Virgos), some other signs need to get a little creative when it comes to staying on task. Thankfully, harmonizing your zodiac sign with its most effective productivity strategy is the quickest and easiest way to achieve your goals. Here’s how to maximize your productivity, based on your zodiac sign.

The Productivity Strategy You Should Try, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Aries: Set bite-sized daily goals

Aries has a reputation—and a tendency—to get distracted jumping from one thing to the next. As an Aries myself, I know this to be true. We love to start and launch projects, but the follow-through is where you can lose us. Writing down a list of a few quick and easy tasks to complete keeps us on our toes and ready for the next thing. And the satisfaction of crossing each item off our list? It’s the little things that motivate us. Try breaking down a larger project into smaller, achievable tasks in your to-do list. Before you know it, you’ll have completed the whole thing with little wins along the way.

Taurus: Reward yourself with self-care

Taurus and self-care go hand in hand (and we love that about them). They love the finer things in life and pampering themselves with everything showers, little treats, splurging on a cozy cashmere sweater, and the like. Taurus, use this to your advantage by treating yourself after completing a long day of work to inspire you for the following day. Crush that big presentation? Take yourself on a little walk for some self-care time after. Get through a long day of back-to-back meetings? That calls for a relaxing bath and glass of wine. And if something major happens, like a big promotion or raise, add that cozy cashmere sweater to your cart.

Gemini: Turn on Do Not Disturb

Geminis are the communicators of the zodiac, so I know that this tip may seem counter-intuitive. However, the twin sign needs to find the balance between sending countless TikToks to their closest friends and getting their work done so they can run off to happy hour with their coworkers. Gemini, mute your notifications, throw on some T Swift, and put your head down and it’ll be 5 p.m. before you know it. If an all-day phone blackout isn’t in the cards, set yourself alarms for designated TikTok time throughout the day.

Cancer: Set intentional boundaries for your day

Cancers love to give, give, give—whether it’s for their colleagues or their closest family members. But they have a tendency to put themselves (and their own priorities) on the back burner. Before you start your day, make sure to remind yourself that it’s OK to say no and put yourself first. Set yourself to “busy” on Slack or Teams, block out time in your calendar for heads-down work, and don’t take on more than you realistically have time for. If you have some extra time on your calendar once you’ve tackled your to-dos, then you can give back to your team.

Leo: Practice affirmations

Leos, while arguably the most confident sign of the zodiac chart, tend to look for outside validation to motivate themselves. So, you could guess that it could be a challenge to find the self-motivation to keep their mind focused at work. Leos, give yourself some self-love and write empowering affirmations on a sticky note to put on your desk, or better yet, practice saying them to yourself in the mirror before you start your day.

Virgo: Plan out your week on Sunday nights

Virgos thrive off of organization and are practically born to be productive, so they can rely on themselves to get the work done. Knowing you, Virgo, I’m sure you’ve tried every productivity method under the sun. But have you tried planning out your entire work week during your Sunday reset practice? Set some time aside—and avoid the Sunday scaries—by combing through your planner and writing down 3-5 goals you’d like to accomplish each day of the week. Future you will be so glad this step in their daily planning process is already done.

Libra: Try the Pomodoro method

Libras are in a constant state of seeking balance in their life and this productivity method is just that. The Pomodoro Method breaks down your work into 25-minute chunks followed by 5-minute or 10-minute breaks. You continue working in this cycle until you’ve hit four intervals—usually equaling about two hours of work—and then you take a longer 20-minute or 30-minute break. Libras, to fully lean into your strengths, use your breaks to either socialize or help your coworkers with a task to feel like you’ve truly taken a break from work.

Scorpio: Tackle the hardest task first

Scorpios are very passionate and work well under pressure, so beginning their day by crossing off their hardest task first will give them as much satisfaction as finishing the last page of a thriller book. Once they’ve gotten over their biggest hurdle of the day, they’ll keep that same high-intensity energy throughout their smaller assignments.

Sagittarius: Must, Should, Want method

The Must, Should, Want Method plays into Sag’s free-spirited and energetic nature, yet allows them to get serious and focus on what’s most important first. For this productivity method, you’ll want to break down all of your tasks into three categories: Musts, shoulds, and wants. Musts are non-negotiables, shoulds are things you should prioritize if you have the time, and wants are items you would like to focus on either just for the fun of it or to get ahead of schedule. Sagittarius should focus first on their musts before anything else. If they have time, they can dip into their shoulds and wants once they complete their musts.

Capricorn: Take a 30-minute break

Since Capricorns are so work-focused, they tend to forget to take a moment for themselves, putting them at major risk of burnout. Caps, keep your burnout at bay by taking your lunch (and no, not at your desk) or throwing a coffee chat with a coworker to catch up. If taking 30 minutes seems too daunting on a hectic day, even just setting aside shorter breaks at different points in the day will do wonders for your mental health and help you stay at your peak productivity level.

Aquarius: Morning pages

Aquariuses are known for their philosophical and out-of-the-box thinking, so if they write down their big ideas on paper, they’ll set themselves up for success for the rest of the day. Whether they dedicate this time to thinking through and working out a solution for a big challenge at work or simply braindump to clear their mind for the day ahead, committing to this daily practice can help keep Aquariuses on task throughout the day. Aquarius, keep a notebook at your desk and give yourself 10 minutes of writing time each morning while you sip your coffee.

Pisces: Give yourself 15 minutes a day to brainstorm

Dreamy Pisces can often be found daydreaming which can sometimes pull them away from projects, but this isn’t necessarily a weakness. Pisces, allow yourself daily brainstorming time to let yourself drift away and think from a different perspective on a task. Oftentimes, you’ll find that you’ll come to an answer or idea faster if you lean into this strength of yours.

The hustle culture. The nine-to-five. The daily grind. Whatever you call it, we’ve been conditioned to work, work, work, work, work (cue RiRi). It’s no wonder quiet quitting took off and made headlines. Another viral TikTok trend is taking it a step further by renouncing the stress and hamster wheel of the traditional job. Coined the “soft life,” the term refers to a lifestyle that embraces rest and ease, a notion that has gotten lost in today’s toxic productivity shuffle. So is living the soft life all that it’s cracked up to be? Read on to learn the ins and outs of the soft life’s MO and how to adapt it to your own life.

What’s the soft life?

Originating in the Nigerian influencer community, the term “soft life” or “soft era” describes living a life of enjoyment and comfort, while limiting stress. With 1 billion views and counting on TikTok, there’s no shortage of content depicting the stress-free #softlife, popularized namely by Black women creators and influencers who are putting themselves first–and for good reason–in response to the hustle and “girlboss” culture of the 2010s. According to the Transparent Black Girl page, soft living is about Black women no longer accepting strength and work ethic as their sole identities.

While some paint an extravagant picture of the viral trend with glimpses of fine dining, upscale vacations, and luxury everything (cars, clothes, workouts), others pass over the consumerism of it and focus on self-care (think: writing down affirmations, delegating tasks, setting firm boundaries). In other words, living a soft life is subjective, and anyone can experience it. The purpose of the soft life is to reject the struggle, stress, and anxiety that come with the rat race, and instead prioritize joy and experience.

It’s not about scaling back on your career efforts like quiet quitting–it’s about prioritizing your joy first, which can mean quitting a toxic job or leaning into the aspects of your job you genuinely love. It’s not anti-work; it just means setting boundaries where you need (work, relationships, housework, etc.) so you feel less stress and more joy in your life overall. Soft living can look opulent, but at its core, it’s a mindset cultivating balance, self-awareness, intentionality, and joy.

How do I live a soft life?

Much like self-care and wellness overall, no matter what the soft life means to an influencer or how it’s portrayed, you do you—do what brings you joy and what works for your mental, physical, and emotional health. Ahead, hacks to embrace the soft life in your own way.

Make time for rest

PSA: Rest is productive. The laundry, work emails, and grocery shopping can wait. There will always be something demanding your attention or to check off your to-do list, but your mind and body aren’t built to run on empty. When you take the time to unplug, be still, and relax, not only will it pay off for your mental health, but also your creativity, productivity, and mood. To ensure you fit in your R&R, schedule your breaks and treat them as mandatory appointments, just as you would a health check-up or work meeting.

Manage stress

A key component of leaning into the soft lifestyle is taking stress out of the equation (I know, that seems impossible). Because, as we can all attest, the “fight-or-flight” reaction of stress wreaks havoc on our well-being, often leading to migraines, digestive issues, and anxiety. We all handle stress differently, so it may take experimenting with different techniques to reduce it. Some tried-and-true methods? Therapy, meditation, breathwork, walking, and getting optimal sleep

Establish boundaries

Whether we’re talking work, relationships, or sex, setting boundaries is a non-negotiable for maintaining balance in your life and caring for your mental health. First things first: learn to get comfortable saying “no.” If you’re a people-pleaser (same) and the word doesn’t exist in your vocabulary, remember that by always saying “yes,” you’re also turning your back on things that are important to you—be it time off or respect. Instead, honor your needs and wants by being upfront and clearly communicating what is and what isn’t OK in your book, especially in regard to how you want to be treated. The result? You’ll create trust, foster healthy connections, and be more appreciated.

Live intentionally

Sure, having a routine takes the guesswork out of your day-to-day, but when you’re running on autopilot, how much are you focusing on the present moment? The first step in practicing intentional living is clearly identifying your values and what the best, higher, happiest version of yourself and your life embodies. Then, actively work towards them.

One misconception of soft living is that you have to be swimming in money to enjoy life fully. Rather, it’s about being deliberate in how you spend your hard-earned cash and time (time is money after all). What experiences are important to you and make you feel good? Hone in on and go after those.

Don’t be afraid to enlist help

The common theme of the soft life manifested in yachts and skincare routines seen on TikTok alike? There’s no “hustle hard” narrative. That’s partly because the soft life way of life includes allowing yourself to be vulnerable and asking for and accepting help when you need it. Whether you have too much on your plate at home or you can’t keep up with work deadlines, we all have breaking points. And seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness, but rather an opportunity to build relationships and learn new skills from others. It’s an all-around win-win.

The tomatoes and sweet corn of August are making way for the Brussels sprouts, winter squash, apples, and cranberries of fall. It’s that time of year when you crave something a little warmer, a bit cozier, and a smidge heavier than you do during the summer months when fresh, light flavors are far more craveable. Casseroles, roasted veggies, soups, stews, chilis, tray bakes, braises, and the like all take center stage as the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter. But just as the summer days seem to fly by, time is still of the essence. Between work, errands, maintaining a social life, and soaking up the crisp fall days ahead, you don’t have all day to spend at your stove, so you’re going to need some fall recipes that will work for your schedule.

Luckily, these fall recipes give you that taste of the season but are easy to prep or make ahead, so you can spend more time watching football, peeping at fall foliage, drinking cider and hot toddies, and eating all things pumpkin.

There are two types of people in this world: those who decorate for fall and those who decorate for Halloween. In my opinion, there is no in-between. You are either thinking, “Sure, I’ll place a few pumpkins on the porch and switch to a seasonal dish towel,” or you’re planning on turning your whole space into your very own version of Halloweentown. If you’re a die-hard Halloween fan, I have good news: The time has finally come to show off your dark side.

Halloween decor has hit the aisles of all our favorite retailers, and the inspiration we’re seeing across the internet is scary good. From chilling front porches to spooky tablescapes, here are the Halloween decor ideas we can’t stop thinking about, plus everything you need to get the look:

1. Creepy Front Porch

This year, start your spooky display right at the front door. Lay down a Halloween-inspired doormat, flank the door with spooky jack-o-lanterns, and—if you really want to go the extra mile—tack up a whole flock of bats across the door. Whether you have a large front porch to decorate or a smaller stoop at your apartment, these decorations will undoubtedly show off your spirit.

2. Eerie Entryway

An entryway table or cabinet is the perfect canvas for Halloween decor because it’ll be the first thing guests see when they walk in the door. Drape some spooky fabric across the surface to set the stage for creepy accents like faux skulls, skeleton hands, and more. And, of course, don’t forget to light some candles to add some flickering ambience.

3. Spooky-Chic Living Room

This living room takes an approach to Halloween decor I like to call “spooky-chic.” It’s not overly scary but uses a few tactfully placed accents to create a Halloween-inspired look that still feels cozy. Create a similar look with decorations like faux cobwebs and black raven figurines mixed in with more traditional fall accessories like plaid throw pillows and woven blankets.

4. Creepy Outdoor Tablescape

If you plan on doing any entertaining this October, this outdoor entertaining setup is all the inspo you need. Set the table with spooky serving dishes, orange and black table linens, and plenty of candles to set an eerie tone. For extra light, surround your entertaining space with lit jack-o-lanterns for the perfect mood lighting.

5. Spooky Sideboard Accents

Small vignettes can be one of the most effective ways to decorate for Halloween. Pick a surface (like the sideboard pictured here) and dress it up with a few simple additions. If you don’t have a sideboard, that’s no problem. You can arrange these decor items on a mantle, bar cart, side table, or anywhere else you want to add a haunting touch.

6. Halloween Party-Ready Bar Cart

As you trade your spicy margs and Aperol spritzes for cozier cocktails, it’s time to give your bar cart a spooky makeover, too. Set out some fun Halloween-themed glassware and use a fun vessel like a cauldron to stash extra beverages. If you’re getting ready to host, fill up a drink dispenser with a fun autumn-inspired drink, and stash some blankets on a lower shelf so guests can easily grab one to cuddle up against the chill.

7. Halloween-Inspired Table Decor

Are you inviting people over to entertain? Make sure your tablescape celebrates the season. We love the warm fall tones and subtle hints of Halloween on this dining room table. Recreate it with candle holders, mini pumpkins, spooky glassware, and a dried bouquet. Tombstone place cards with your guests’ names are optional but highly encouraged.

8. Halloween Living Room Decor

Is orange not really your vibe? Stick to accessories in shades of black or white to make your Halloween decor blend seamlessly into your existing setup. This living room keeps it simple with a few spooky accessories scattered throughout and one standout spider across the windows for some wow factor.

On a random night of scouring Netflix for something new, I came across Sex, Love & goop. The description immediately caught my eye: Courageous couples journey toward more pleasurable sex and deeper intimacy with help from Gwyneth Paltrow and a team of experts in this reality series. Because I promised myself I’d watch something out-of-the-box rather than binge-watching another season of The Vampire Diaries, I figured this voyage wouldn’t cause any harm. Little did I know, pressing play was an awakening I didn’t know I was due for.

Sex, Love & goop follows couples of different ages and sexualities navigating the bumps of sexual chemistry, dynamic issues, and more, and they don’t waste any time getting to the bottom of these intimate details in order to help these couples have better sex. In fact, the show starts with Paltrow happily relaying, “We’re having sex, it’s a show about sex, and we’re gonna talk about sex.”

We know that sexual (and emotional!) wants and needs vary in most relationships—one person might need the perfect moment to get in the mood, while the other could be ready to go after a short sensual warmup—which can cause some not-so-great sexual chemistry, or worse, none at all if each person doesn’t understand the others needs. This is where Miss Jaiya, a somatic sexologist and author of numerous books geared toward having more pleasurable and rewarding sex, comes to save the day. She explains on the show the concept of Erotic Blueprints (or what she likes to call “love languages for the bedroom”) and encourages each couple to experiment with different aspects of pleasure to have a better understanding of what it takes to have sex so incredible, you shed a tear—seriously, this happens in one of the episodes.

In my desperate need to understand my own Erotic Blueprint, have a tear-shedding orgasm, and share with you how you can have an experience so epic too, I did a deep dive on the topic, took the Erotic Blueprint quiz, and even interviewed Miss Jaiya.

What are Erotic Blueprints?

According to Miss Jaiya, Erotic Blueprints are “a powerful map to help you discover your unique form of arousal,” and in learning your own, you are given the “guidebook to all that is erotically possible.” If you’re riding solo, this is life-altering information that’ll assist in communicating and connecting with yourself to your unique style of pleasure, and if you’re with a partner, you’ll not only have the opportunity to tell them exactly what you need but understand their needs as well.

Just like with traditional love languages, not understanding each other’s blueprints can lead to confusion, and, in this case, sexual incompatibility. “As lovers, we often approach our partners in the way we like to be turned on and pleased. We mistakenly assume, ‘If this is what I like, that must be what will turn them on too.’ And this is where many relationships run into trouble in the bedroom and where discovering the pleasure of every Blueprint Type can bridge the sexual incompatibility divide,” explains Jaiya.

Knowing your Erotic Blueprint (and your partner’s) is an amazing way to have great sex and connect on a new level. This is because “learning to speak your lover’s language of turn-on allows you to meet their unique needs and fulfill their specific desires. The Blueprints give you the translation tools so you can begin to communicate clearly and experience a deeper connection and orgasmic satisfaction,” Jaiya adds.

Sex aside, learning about your own Erotic Blueprint can be a major game-changer for healing. For many of us, we’ve learned to feel sexual shame in ways that have manifested into our everyday lives. Kinky types may have felt isolated in their fantasies while Sensuals might try to ignore their love for things that may not constitute as “sex.” Learning your Erotic Blueprint is seriously the first step in learning the language your body has always spoken and the start to fulfilling everything you’ve always wanted in a sexual and non-sexual way.

What are the 5 Erotic Blueprints (aka the love languages for the bedroom)?

According to Jaiya, “We are all a blend of all five Erotic Blueprint Types. Our Primary Blueprint Type is our easiest pathway to pleasure and satisfaction. However, the other Blueprint expressions can add depth, color, and variety to our sexual play.” So, with that in mind, we are breaking down each of the Erotic Blueprints so you can gain a better understanding of your own as well as your partners.

1. Sensual

The Sensual blueprint is all about engaging the senses. In everyday life, they are probably really big on filling their space with textures, listening to music they “feel,” and surrounding themselves with beautiful scenery. During sex, they most likely enjoy massages, essential oils, and lots of lingering touches. Sensual blueprints can have full-body orgasms beyond a partner’s touch. A beautiful sunset or perfectly curated food can do it for them.

2. Sexual

The Sexual blueprint is described by Jaiya as “what we think of as sex in our culture.” These beings are turned on by porn, naked bodies, genitals, etc. Typically considered the easiest to please, this type is also known to have less shame about sex than other groups.

Because their view of sex is so focused on what society portrays as “normal,” they may be likely to think anything that doesn’t involve intercourse or penetration isn’t sex at all.

3. Energetic

Energetic types are known to have orgasms without touch. Crazy, right? They tend to feel more with less; yoga and meditation may be activities they turn to naturally. Some often find themselves craving the feel of longing, eye-gazing, or hovering touch.

It’s important to keep an open line of communication with Energetic blueprints because they can get overwhelmed easily by stimulation or underwhelmed by a lack of presence from their partner.

4. Kinky

We’ve all heard the term kinky, but do you actually know what it means? The types are turned on by creativity and exploration; they’re aroused by the taboo. Oftentimes, these types can feel a sense of shame or repression in regard to their sexual desires because they may not view themselves as “normal.”

Out of all the types, besides the Shapeshifter, this type is known to have the most play. Some things they may enjoy are switching between dominant and submissive role-play, spanking, or introducing bondage toys.

5. Shapeshifter

This erotically sophisticated blueprint can bounce between different types based on different partners or experience multiple blueprints all at once. Referred to as the “whole
smorgasbord” by Jaiya, this type is known to be an empathic lover, since they are able to adjust and feel all of the blueprints.

Known for enjoying discovery, this type may be fond of layering different types of play, using different toys, and trying new trends in the realm of sex to constantly evolve their knowledge.

How to get the most out of Erotic Blueprints—solo or with a partner

Knowing what to explore or how to explore our own pleasure can feel confusing, embarrassing, and even overwhelming, but when you learn what your needs, wants, and desires are through your Erotic Blueprint, you can accept who you are and open a whole new world of pleasure possibilities, as Jaiya explains.

Whether you are single or having sex with a partner, start by exploring your own blueprint through solo sex. Jaiya says that “solo sex can be one of the best ways to learn your own body, without pressure, and build your understanding of what turns you on.” Once you do this, you can feel more empowered to ask for what you want, expand your pleasure vocabulary, and increase your erotic intelligence when you’re with a partner.

But don’t keep speaking your language of sexual satisfaction and ignore the differences in your partner’s blueprint and expect to have a great sex life. Once you become an expert on your own, start a conversation with your partner about theirs. Since we know it’s a vulnerable topic for some, we asked Jaiya to suggest some conversation starters and helpful tips for approaching this conversation:

Blame it on Miss Jaiya

Referencing Jaiya is quite possibly the most natural and easy way to bring up this conversation. She suggests saying something like, “I saw this woman Jaiya talking about the Erotic Blueprint Types. It got me curious, so I took her quiz and watched her on Netflix’s Sex, Love, & goop. I’d love for you to take the quiz to see what type you are and then maybe we can play around with what we discover.” From there, bring up the quiz, fill each other in on each other’s results, and get busy!

Approach the topic with vulnerability

Jaiya says that a good time to bring up this topic is outside of the bedroom and when they have time and attention for the conversation—if you’re not sure when that is, just ask! Then, when the time is right, “approach your lover with vulnerability and share with them your true desires for your relationship and your excitement to have an even better sex life,” says Jaiya. Explain that you’re interested in exploring and expanding how you are intimate with each other, and follow up with education about Erotic Blueprints. Make sure to communicate that this can help you both experience more pleasure and take this as an opportunity to be open and honest with your partner about your current sexual compatibility as well as how you can improve.

Watching an iconic series or movie surrounded by friends is one of life’s greatest pleasures. With friends, we get to yell at the screen when plot twists surprise us and inevitably rewind when someone has talked over an important line. Then, of course, there are the debates and laughter that ensue when the credits start to roll. It’s a great way to bond with old friends and new friends alike and an excuse to get together regularly, especially for shows that stream new episodes once a week. In fact, some shows and movies wouldn’t be the same without your friends by your side (and all their various opinions). Read on for a list of the best shows to spark conversation, laughter, heartfelt moments, and community in your friend group.

Shows to Stream With Friends

Abbott Elementary

Where to watch: Hulu

This one’s for all the teachers out there, but also for anyone who has a strong bond with their coworkers. The show follows the lives of the people working at Abbott Elementary through a heartfelt and comedic lens. Every single member of the cast is excellent, led by show creator Quinta Brunson, who plays the determined and relatable Janine. Whether the cast is working to secure more funds for their students or engaging in a colleague competition, you and your coworkers-turned-friends will leave this group viewing feeling inspired and joyful.

The Sex Lives of College Girls

Where to watch: Max

For friend groups that love watching the escapades of other friend groups, this show created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble is for you. It follows the lives of four women who have just entered college and are thrown together in a shared dorm room. It’s not only fun to watch if you’re missing your college days, but it’s also heartwarming and hilarious to see the characters build friendships as they each tackle insecurities and pursue their goals. The show is grounded and real, but not afraid to go for the laugh when it comes to topics of sex, love, and friendship.

Black Mirror

Where to watch: Netflix

It’s hard to describe a series like Black Mirror because you never know what you’re going to get within each season. The show is an anthology series in which each episode is its own short film exploring alternate realities, possibilities, and twisted themes. The great thing about this show is that your friends can jump in with you at any time since you don’t need to see every episode or worry about watching anything in order. For friend groups who like to unpack deep themes together, this is the show that will keep you guessing, discussing, and reflecting for days to come.

Game of Thrones

Where to watch: Max

I would be willing to bet that Game of Thrones is one of the most common shows for friends to stream together. With House of the Dragon now out as well, there are plenty of episodes to binge with your friends who love GOT. Bonus points if you get that one friend who has never seen GOT (there is always one) to watch the series. The backstabbing and plotting, the characters who spend several seasons trying to get back to each other, and the epic story arcs are enough to entertain your friend group for many weeks to come.

Firefly

Where to watch: Hulu

With only one season and a subsequent movie called Serenity, this show may be one of the most underrated sci-fi shows ever. The cast is incredible, with many actors who you might recognize in later popular shows, and a few that were already established when Firefly premiered. It bends genres as a space adventure meets western meets thriller, where each episode could be its own story. There are also many epic throughlines throughout the series and movie that will keep you and your friends guessing (and debating which character is your favorite).

The Crown

Where to watch: Netflix

There is no denying the world’s obsession with the British Royal Family, and for better or for worse, our culture has been shaped by it. The Crown aims to tell the story of some of the most well-known royals. The show follows the lives of the family over several decades, including switching up actors every couple of seasons to account for age. While not completely historically accurate (what show set in history ever is?), it’s a great conversation starter for your friends who love all things royal.

Bridgerton

Where to watch: Netflix

Speaking of royalty, would this list be complete without including Bridgerton? It would not. As much as Lady Whistledown loves reporting on the gossip of the ton, so too will your friends. Even if everyone you know has seen the first two seasons multiple times, it’s so fun to sit around, perhaps with themed snacks and drinks, and rewatch the best episodes (meaning all of them). And while you’re at it, give Queen Charlotte a watch before you start the OG series, especially if you want some extra context on how the ton came to be.

Jane the Virgin

Where to watch: Netflix

There’s no other show quite like Jane the Virgin with its telenovela style and structure. The drama, the comedy, and the plot twists are incredible, and watching in a group makes it even more dramatic. In true telenovela fashion, there are so many moments when we as an audience know something that the characters don’t, and it’s fun to react with friends as the events unfold. Within the series, there are funny scenes, but also sad ones, and it might just be the cathartic laugh-cry show you and your friends need right now.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

Where to watch: Prime Video

For your book club friend group, it’s always fun to watch a new show that was previously a book series. The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on the books by Jenny Han and follows a coming-of-age story that brings all the feels. If you and your friends are fans of nostalgic moments, love triangles, and beautiful settings, this series is for you. It’s an engaging group watch whether or not you’ve read the books, but of course, a little book versus show debate is always a delightful way to spend your post-show discussion time.

Movies to Stream with Friends

Always Be My Maybe

Where to watch: Netflix

Anything in the rom-com genre is a tried and true movie to stream with friends, but Always Be My Maybe is one of the best to come along in recent years. Written and starred in by Ali Wong and Randall Park, the movie follows high school friends turned lovers, who grew apart and reconnect over a decade later. Watch with your high school friends, or with anyone who loves a good will-they-won’t-they storyline that’s equally witty and sentimental.

The Worst Person in the World

Where to watch: Hulu

This award-winning Norwegian film is perfect to watch when you and your friends are in a reflective space and time. It’s beautiful to watch, centering around a woman in her 30s who is unsure of everything in her life, including her career and relationships. It’s relatable, comforting, and challenging all at once. Brew some tea, settle in with your favorite comfort snacks, and get ready for heartfelt and deep discussions with your friends afterward.

Hocus Pocus

Where to watch: Hulu or Disney+

Halloween only comes once a year, and it would not be complete without a rewatch of Hocus Pocus. The Sanderson Sisters, the creepy book with an eye, and Binx the cat are everything you and your friends need to get into the Halloween spirit. And why stop there? There’s also the new Hocus Pocus 2, which will make it a binge-worthy evening as you check back in with the Sanderson Sisters while they rise again to make mischief and run amuck.

Ghostbusters

Where to watch: Prime Video

Whether you’re watching the original Ghostbusters films from the 80s or the most recent iterations, there are plenty of options to stream and many marathon opportunities to be had. The films are the perfect excuse to host a party with friends as the weather starts to get colder and Halloween approaches. The theme song alone is a reason for a dance party to ensue. You’ll laugh, you’ll scream, and you might even want to form a ghostbusting troop while you’re at it.

Booksmart

Where to watch: Rent on Prime Video or Apple TV for $3.99

This is the coming-of-age, end-of-high-school, pre-college shenanigans movie you and your friends have been waiting for. It follows the story of best friends Amy and Molly, who are graduating high school and realize they didn’t have enough fun while they were working so hard to get into college. They go on a quest to change this, among many other adventures and revelations. It’s consistently hilarious throughout, with a heartfelt core inside the absurd, brilliant, and relatable scenarios.

Mamma Mia!

Where to watch: Rent on Prime Video or Apple TV for $3.99

This is the perfect movie to stream with your friends who love singing and dancing. Much like the staged musical that it originated from, it’s hard to watch Mamma Mia! without falling in love with the songs and vibe. With a wildly talent cast (some that may or may not be great singers, but we love them anyway) and a plot that is really just a device to get to the next song, it’s fun and uplifting to watch. And if that’s not enough, make a themed marathon out of it and watch the sequel next!

The Hunger Games

Where to watch: Youtube

When I have friends coming over on a rainy day, The Hunger Games is always at the top of my list of movies to watch. With four movies to binge, it’s a full day’s worth of cheering on Katniss Everdeen as she goes on a hero’s journey to survive the Games and try to save Panem. Of course, the movies are based on the original three books by the same name, so plan on inviting your friends who are fans of the books and movies alike.

Practical Magic

Where to watch: Hulu

If your friends are into witches, romances, and rom-coms, this is your movie. It’s an iconic late-90s film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, in which they play sisters who are tormented by a family curse that involves the people they fall in love with. With many surprising twists and turns, great performances, and forbidden romance, this is the perfect movie to watch for Halloween, or when you’re ready for all the Fall vibes to enter your life.

Twilight

Where to watch: Rent on Prime Video or Apple TV for $3.99

What can be said about Twilight that hasn’t already been said? It’s yet another book series turned film series that seriously rocked pop culture. It’s probably also the reason we see so many movies and shows about vampires and werewolves consistently being made. It’s certainly one of the most fun film series to watch in a group ever. Throw on these movies with your friends and finally settle the debate on Team Jacob, Team Edward, or my personal favorite, Team Bella Swan.
